GCSS Achieves Historic Graduation Rate of 98.7 Percent

Glynn County Schools is respected as a state leader in providing students with a well-rounded education, as evidenced in the Georgia Department of Education’s latest analysis report.

In 2024, Glynn County Schools’ overall graduation rate increased from 96.5 percent in 2023 to 98.7 percent this year – the highest in the district’s history. This is also the second consecutive year that Glynn County Schools has held the highest graduation rate among all systems in the First District RESA.

At Brunswick High, the graduation rate soared from 94.4 percent in 2023 to 99.8 percent this year. Glynn Academy saw a graduation rate of 97.7 percent in 2024, compared to 98.6 percent last year.

This continuation of excellence is attributed to the diverse, educational opportunities afforded to our students, including expanded pathways in Career, Technical and Agriculture Education (CTAE), dual enrollment, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs, said Eric Benson, Assistant Superintendent of Grades 6-12.

"This is a testament to the relationships, quality instruction, and continued support by our teachers, administrators, families, and all staff across Glynn County Schools,” Benson said.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods commended the Class of 2024 for their historic achievement, particularly in light of the significant challenges posed by Covid-19.

““These students faced great challenges throughout their school careers – they were in middle school when the pandemic hit in 2020. We have worked to provide the resources and supports needed to ensure they could still succeed and thrive, and we continue to see results showing that the efforts of Georgia’s educators, families, and all those who have taken the time to invest in students are paying off,” he said.

Georgia’s high school seniors achieved another all-time high graduation rate, with the four-year graduation rate rising to 85.4 percent, up from 84.4 percent in 2023. This marks the highest rate since the state began using the adjusted cohort calculation required by federal law in 2011.

A total of 44 districts recorded rates at or above 95%. Georgia’s statewide graduation rate has increased by 18 percentage points since 2011.

About Georgia Graduation Rates

Georgia calculates a four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate as required by federal law.  This rate is the number of students who graduate in four years with a regular high school diploma divided by the number of students who form the adjusted cohort for the graduating class.  From the beginning of ninth grade, students who are entering that grade for the first time form a cohort that is subsequently “adjusted” by adding any students who transfer into the cohort during the next three years, and subtracting any students who transfer out
